It's been a year
Wow, it's been a year ago today that our lives changed. Working so hard on the day to day, the complete year in it's entirety is hard to comprehend. The ER, lifeflight, the nightmare is all behind us now. Wow, it's only been a year? I can hardly remember when buggies wasn't burnt, when I wasn't washing pressure garments daily, physical therapy, wound care. How weird. It seems that I have been taking care of Myles' hemophilia and burns since the day he was born. Life is funny sometimes. All I know is that he is with us, loving us, inspiring us, telling us that he loves us, we are blessed. I won't allow myself to relive this past year, once was enough. We have all grown, learned, loved, and listened to what is really important in life, and I thank the strong and unbelievable sons that have been given to me. Like I said, I am blessed. To Myles: you give us the strength when there is none! I love you baby.

Wisdom in Warnings

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
Galatians 6:7 NIV
We’re often surprised at life’s mishaps, but when pressed against the wall of honesty we have to admit that if we had just fired that silly receptionist and done something about those calls, we could have avoided so many problems. We usually knew that trouble was just around the bend. Christians who have fallen away felt the fire waning long before it went out. Unwanted pregnancies or explosions of anger may appear to be the fruit of a moment’s waywardness, but in reality, they’re usually the result of a history of ignoring warnings about an impending fire.
Are you close to the falls? Are your senses numb? Are your eyes trained to turn and roll when they should pause and observe?
Then maybe you need to repair your warning detector.
Hey Myles!! WOW, I can't believe it's been a year. I don't know how many devotions I've sent you, but they've been just as much of a blessing to me. And I hope to others. I just got back from a medical mission to Haiti. It was unbelievable hard hard hard hard work, but definitely worth it. It is very satisfying to help the poorest of the poor. You wouldn't believe what we were able to do while we were there. You're a blessing Myles, and even though I was unable to write or call . . . you were thought of, and prayed for daily. Praise God!!! What a year it's been!

Open Your Heart

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Psalm 56:3 NLT
How did Jesus endure the terror of the crucifixion? He went first to the Father with his fears. He modeled the words of Psalm 56:3: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Do the same with yours. Don’t avoid life’s Gardens of Gethsemane. Enter them. Just don’t enter them alone. And while there, be honest. Pounding the ground is permitted. Tears are allowed. And if you sweat blood, you won’t be the first. Do what Jesus did; open your heart.
And be specific. Jesus was. “Take this cup,” he prayed. Give God the number of the flight. Tell him the length of the speech. Share the details of the job transfer. He has plenty of time. He also has plenty of compassion.
He doesn’t think your fears are foolish or silly. He won’t tell you to “buck up” or “get tough.” He’s been where you are. He knows how you feel.
And he knows what you need.
WOW this is a great devotion. I needed it so much. You've been a blessing to me Myles, more than I can tell you. YOU make me stop my busy life, and Thank God!
So . . .Thank you Myles

The Love of God

“I’ll call the unloved and make them beloved.”
Romans 9:25 MSG
Our love depends on the receiver of the love. Let a thousand people pass before us, and we will not feel the same about each. Our love will be regulated by their appearance, by their personalities. Even when we find a few people we like, our feelings will fluctuate. How they treat us will affect how we love them. The receiver regulates our love.
Not so with the love of God. We have no thermostatic impact on his love for us. The love of God is born from within him, not from what he finds in us. His love is uncaused and spontaneous…
Does he love us because of our goodness? Because of our kindness? Because of our great faith? No, he loves us because of his goodness, kindness, and great faith.
Love that!! Is nice to know, no matter what . . . we are loved.
Much love and continued prayers to all!

Is It Loving?

“[Love] is not rude.”
I Corinthians 13:5 NIV
When defining what love is not, Paul put rudeness on the list. “It is not rude.” The Greek word for rude means shameful or disgraceful behavior.
An example of rudeness was recently taken before the courts in Minnesota. A man fell out of his canoe and lost his temper. Though the river was lined with vacationing families, he polluted the air with obscenities. Some of those families sued him. He said, “I have my rights.”
God calls us to a higher, more noble concern. Not “What are my rights?” but “What is loving?”
Do you have the right to dominate a conversation? Yes, but is it loving to do so?…
Is it within your rights to bark orders at the clerk or snap at the kids? Yes. But is it loving to act this way?
WOW! Paul was awesome wasn't he?! I can't wait to see him in heaven.
Hope all is well, I'm looking forward to spring. How about you? Much love and continued prayers for all!!

Our Problem
Monday, March 03, 2008
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
We have a problem: We are not holy, and “anyone whose life is not holy will never see the Lord” (Heb. 12:14).
Our deeds are ugly. Our actions are harsh. We don’t do what we want to do, we don’t like what we do, and what’s worse—yes, there is something worse—we can’t change.
We try, oh, how we try. But “Can a leopard change his spots? In the same way, Jerusalem, you cannot change and do good, because you are accustomed to doing evil” (Jer. 13:23).
We, like Adam, were under a curse, but Jesus “changed places with us and put himself under that curse” (Gal. 3:13).
The sinless One took on the face of a sinner so that we sinners could take on the face of a saint.
Wow, love that!! Hope all is well, much love and cotinued prayers!!

God Has No Limitations

“Where can I go to get away from your Spirit?”
Psalm 139:7
You and I are governed. The weather determines what we wear. The terrain tells us how to travel. Gravity dictates our speed, and health determines our strength. We may challenge these forces and alter them slightly, but we never remove them.
God—our Shepherd—doesn’t check the weather; he makes it. He doesn’t defy gravity; he created it. He isn’t affected by health; he has no body. Jesus said, “God is spirit” (John 4:24). Since he has no body, he has no limitations—equally active in Cambodia as he is in Connecticut.
“Where can I go to get away from your Spirit?” asked David. “Where can I run from you? If I go up to the heavens, you are there. If I lie down in the grave, you are there” (Psalm 139:7-8).
I love that we're never alone. Much love and continued prayers for ALL!

Redefining Prayer
Monday, March 10, 2008
“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.”
Colossians 4:2 NKJV
Early Christians were urged to
“pray without ceasing” (I Thess. 5:17 NASB);
“always be prayerful” (Rom. 12:12 NLT);
“pray at all times and on every occasion” (Eph. 6:18 NLT).
Sound burdensome? Are you wondering, my business needs attention, my children need dinner, my bills need paying. How can I stay in a place of prayer?
Do this. Change your definition of prayer. Think of prayer less as an activity for God and more as an awareness of God. Seek to live in uninterrupted awareness. Acknowledge his presence everywhere you go. As you stand in line to register your car, think, Thank you, Lord, for being here. In the grocery as you shop, Your presence, my King, I welcome. As you wash the dishes, worship your Maker.
Prayer is important. I do it all the time. Sometimes when I run . . . that's all I do! You all remain in all of my thoughts and prayers. Hope all is well,
K8
