In my excitement of Myles walking, I forgot to tell everyone that there is a wonderful article (on the front page) of the idahostatesman newpaper today. The whole story is on Myles' and Aaron's relationship. I'm sure that you would all enjoy reading it. www.idahostatesman.com

Second Post Op 11:00 am

Myles just got out of his second surgery. They were able to remove all of the hundreds of staples holding his grafts in place (GREAT NEWS, THE GRAFTS ARE ALL TAKING). His donor sites are healing slowly but they are healing. The doctor says that he may even be able to sit upright in his bed today. They are hoping that in the next few days that he will be able to start walking around a little bit. His legs were not burnt but completely used for the donor sites. I truly believe that we are finally starting on the "ROAD TO RECOVERY". I am sorry I didn't post anything yesterday but it was a pretty hard and painful day for Myles (which always makes for a hard and painful day for me) and I was too tired to write anything. Good days, bad days, good moments, bad moments...............Your prayers, love, and well wishing are definitey surrounding him. Thank you all from the depths of my soul and beyond. There are no words to describe my gratitude for all the loving support and prayers that you have given to Myles and Aaron, for Myles' physical well being and Aaron's emotional well being. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS, I FEEL THAT IT IS GOD'S WILL. I will write later today after Myles wakes up and let you know how he is feeling.
Love to All

WE HAD A GREAT DAY!!!!!

Myles had a really great day today. Ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Auntie Mona even washed his hair. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Sat 2/24 10:00 am

Myles had a great night! Keeping him up yesterday was a chore and normally he is in and out all night and day. I kept telling him that I would tickle him if he fell asleep (I wish you could of all seen the look I got). He had a great breakfast and when the doctor came by this morning and said that they are not going to do anything painful to him today and he lit up so much I thought that I would need sunglasses. I read all the postings for him and he enjoys them so much. Aaron has got permission from the hospital to bring in his laptop to the Intensive Care Unit today so Myles can see this site and the wonderful things that Channel 6 coverage has been doing. Aaron and Tuyet need to leave to go back to Idaho this afternoon as a huge snow storm is expected tonight through the week. Aaron being here is so much of the reason that buggies is making it through this and I know that his leaving is going to be hard for him, but he says he understands. Hopefully Aaron can come back next week.

Post Surgery Bandage Change

I think that today has been the hardest yet for Myles. His bandage change after surgery was much harder than before surgery. Even with "enough pain meds to knock out 10 grown adults" it was very very painful for him. The donor sites (the areas where they removed unburned skin) were the most painful as his burn sites had lost most of the nerve endings when he was burnt. The doctors said that he looks fantastic. I was unable to stay in the room with my son for the whole process as I felt so helpless to his pain. I truly have to take the doctors word on him looking fantastic as I have never in my life seen anything so horrific. They say that things will look worse before they look better.
Myles will be going into surgery on Monday or Tuesday to have the hundreds of staples holding his graphs in place removed, they will also change his dressing at that time. HE WILL BE COMPLETELY SEDATED. Thank you Lord, I don't know if he or I could go through that again. After this last surgery he will start to heal and be on the long road to perform his 360 degree turns on his wakeboard. Will let you all know how the next surgery goes. I print out all postings and read them to him. When he heard that some people at his school cried, he asked me what happen to make them cry. He is truly amazing!!

Its brother Aaron again-

I spent the night with Myles last night. He was so excited when I showed up with some of his favorite movies from home (can you believe He Loves Lucy?). Amongst other good things are I fed him some chicken fingers and fries, some jello, and tried giving him some graham crackers. He thought those tasted like cardboard. I also snuck him in some candy but don't tell the nurses. And best of all I got to hear him laugh again.

Although we were able to get in a couple laughs it was not all fun and games. Since he is not able to move his arms to scratch himself- and he itches a LOT- we had to be on constant scratch duty on his face. We apparently weren't doing a good job of it because he called us "dysfunctional scratchers". The hard times is where he itched in places we could not help him out due to all of the dressing and gause. Most of his body looks like a mummy. So all he could do was struggle through the discomfort and pain. Every time I could not help him I was reminded of my worst mistake of my life. I can't talk to him about it because I need to be strong for him- which is exactly what I did. But it still broke my heart... well this blog is about him not me.

All in all it was a wonderful second night after surgery. Every time I look at him pushing through I am in awe at how strong of a person he is. I know before all of this I was someone he looked up to for many things. Now I look up to him.Thank you everyone for all of your continued support and prayers. I believe it is truly making a difference.

Myles is doing much better than earlier today. He actually ate some dinner tonight, Mahi Mahi, vegetables and potatoes. He said that I should be the cook in the kitchen so the food will taste better. Tommorow at 9:30 am he is getting his dressings change for the first time since surgery. He has bandages from his neck completely covering his body to his ankles. They say that this is the most painful procedure of all. (Is that possible????). BUT my adorable sweet talking son convinced the doctor that if she knocks him out during the process that she can have all the chocolate candy for the rest of his stay, AND SHE AGREED!!! I will be curious to see if he holds up his end of the bargain. She says that she has never done this for a patient before but as you all know, buggies can charm the pants off Mother Theresa. He already has pet names for all of his nurses which they all seem to adore. Hopefully tonight he will finally get to sleep with no nightmares. And as always and from the deepest of my heart, thank you for your prayers and well wishes. I also want you all to know that Dr. Cochran is the best burn surgeon in the nation. I have had the opportunity to meet some of her past patients and it is truly a miracle what she has done for them.

Myles' meds had just kicked in. Even with his pain he can't refuse to smile for the camera.

Myles had a pretty hard night last night as pain and nightmares seem to be his only reality in the night. They are slowly decreasing him off of the IV pain killers and replacing them with orals so maybe he can get on a more day and night schedule. His spirits are very good this morning. His brother spent the night with him last night (he kicked us all out of the room (demanded may be a better word) because he wanted only Aaron and him to be together. Being near Aaron seems to calm his soul, mind, and vitals. He is starting to ask how people that he knows are doing (John and Jonathan, he wanted me to tell you guys hi). Auntie Mona is buying him a new razor phone today (yikes) and if these meds allow him to stay alert he will want to be calling people to talk. Keep my cell bill in your prayers also (just kidding).

I want to thank everyone for the prayers and loving support that "everyone" is sending to Myles (buggies to the ones closest to him). Myle is having a pretty hard time today. He is on a ventilator to aid in his breathing due to the need for extreme sedation after surgery. They are having to give him blood to replace all that was lost during surgery. My hardest part right now is that they had to take the skin for grafting from the only areas on his body that was not burnt. Seems like things are getting worse instead of better but I know this is necessary. Before surgery, Myles had already stole the hearts of every nurse, doctor, and fellow patients in the Intensive Care Burn unit, as he alway does with everyone he meets. Please keep praying for him as the worst is yet to come. If you would like to send a card or letter to Myles (no flowers as it is ICU) you can send them to

I will read him each and everyone. And thank you all again for your needed prayers.

Created Blog & surgery is over

Hello everyone. This is Aaron, Myles' big brother. I just got this blog up so that we can post updates to everyone on how he is doing. I just showed up in Salt Lake City, UT with Tuyet and we saw Myles right after his surgery- still in critical but stable condition. The Dr. was able to graft all of the skin in one shot. They are going to keep him completely sedated for a least a day or so, so he doesn't move around while the skin adjusts to its new position. Talked to the nurse for the first time too and it started to REALLY sink in how long this is going to take for Myles to recover... even whenever he leaves he is going to have to wear a type of suit that keeps his grafted skin very close to his body over the burn areas. There is so much we need to learn!

Most of these blogs will probably be coming from our mother who is going to be staying here with him until he leaves Utah (they are estimating a few months). She will have more up to date information going on here as soon as she is able to.

God Bless,
Aaron
